first impressions

visual 5'9" if you count her elongated horns (and why shouldn't you?), built like a mean cat - all lean muscle, very accrobatic and dexterous - but more surprisingly, standing out for the colouration of her body overall. There's horns, which we've covered; there is also a tail, hair that is pastel pink/purple, lavender hair, and eerie eyes - black sclera, teal ring around the lavender pale pupils.

aural low timbre, oddly Slavic, but speaks Common and Infernal (which just sounds like an Eastern European language that the player can speak)

Formative Experiences

Please provide 3-5 events which had a significant effect on this character's personality, outlook, or life circumstances, and how they changed as a result of them. No more than 500 words total (not per event).

FIRST EVENT. Orphaned young, as is the rule for all spicy DND rogues, Ea went from a loving home (albeit not a very well off one) to the rough streets. Falling into what was essentially a thieves' guild was one quick way to chip away at any remaining softness in her for a good chunk of years. The contracts were what mattered most.

SECOND EVENT. Getting caught on one contract for that guild put her face to face with the fact that people very much are All Men for Themselves; if not for an acolyte with a key to her cell, she would've rotten in jail. That's part one of the significant event - part two is that she poisoned the Guildmaster to get out of the guild, and ran right out of there.

THIRD EVENT. I mean...GETTING A TADPOLE IN YOUR BRAIN IS PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. How has it impacted her? She feels like she's more on a timer now, and it's definitely forced her to be as collaborative as possible - strength in numbers, even when the numbers are a bunch of willowy men and three hypercompetent ladies who could carry her over their shoulder in a pinch.

FOURTH EVENT. Ending the Shadows Curse. It was a terrible place, when the curse was active, and the moment it became apparent that there could be a way to end it (thanks Halsin), she did everything in her power to do so. Murder was involved, so that was a good time, but the true triumph was the Helping Your Friends she did along the way.

FIFTH EVENT. It's about the friendship.

Worldview

Life can be suffering, and people can be good, but everyone is capable of change and improvement if given a chance. Sometimes that chance means access to food, shelter, and other basic rights - sometimes it means ten gold coins and not stabbing them in the leg. Though it would be easy to assume she's in it for herself, Ea's understanding of laws and rules is more in the lines of 'if it doesn't actually help people, fuck that shit'. She has a strong moral code, honed through years of hunger, petty crime, and witnessing the hunger and the petty crime in others. At her core, she wants to Do Good, so she'll act like a leader even if she'll be protesting that she's not the leader; either way, everyone needs to just learn to deal with the consequences of her choices if you're putting Ea in charge...

Relationships

Mother. Ea's fathers took care of her and raised her, but kept quiet about who and where Ea's mother was; she's been able to find out that the woman was an adventurer who had her, and then had some Important Quest that meant she left Ea in the care of her two partners (yes it was a throuple shush). This totally did not make Ea grow up disliking adventurers (despite now being one), and hasn't had a negative impact on her sense of self at all! What kid doesn't want to find out that mom loves you less than god? Dream Guardian. As of yet their idendity is unrevealed, but she's had a few dream conversations with this mysterious person stuck in the prism; how they're keeping Ea and friends from turning into squids is anyone's guess, but it certainly puts a very big condition on that relationship in general. Stay alive if you do what you're told. Get faced with disappointment if you don't consume more tadpoles. Help me, trust me, if you don't want me to flip the switch off. (This is going to be so much fun when she figures out the guardian is the Emperor...)

Temperament

She has absolutely abysmal charisma, couldn't persuade people to join a cult to save her life, needs constant Guidance for every interaction that's reliant on being charming. On the other hand, she's quite charming in a stray mutt with underbite and a wandering eye kind of way. Ea is direct, prefers action to philosophical debate. She is not the most open of people (or tieflings), but she will be nice to people that she determines are worth it. She can't tolerate a bully, or a tyrant, but she gets on pretty well with major bitches. She works well with others, if they work to her tune. Once she's made a decision - like say choosing to save a child from getting murdered by druids without asking her parents for payment first - there's no amount of pouting from the peanut gallery that will make her change it. She can always explain why why behaves the way she behaves, she just chooses not to.

Suitability

It's fine, she's got this - she's been working as part of a group for a while now, this isn't her first rodeo.

Skills

Proficient in dope rogue shit (athletics, sleight of hand, deception, insight), expertises in acrobatics, investigation, perception and stealth. Can use daggers, most bows, and improvised weapons; has great target accuracy so would make a fine hunter (hint hint hint).

Name Ea Lowkey Age 32 Race tiefling Class rogue

Backstory.

Raised in a mining town by two wonderful men - likely a retired fighter working as a miner, and a bard sustaining the family finances by playing in the local tavern - Ea's childhood is marked by your typical rogue backstory tragedy: losing her fathers.

Aged somewhere around six, and left on her own as an orphan (it's incredible how prejudiced against tieflings the people of Faerun are!), she flitted from gang to gang as a street urchin. The Guildmaster of a local thieves' guild, the Blackbirds, picks Ea off the streets when she is about 10 years old. He moulds her into a fine spy, thief, and lockpick. Under his orders (and on threat of punishment or exile), Ea hones her skills to the point of gaining the role of Guildmaster's favourite.

This goes on for ten years or so, when a heist goes wrong and the Guild denies knowing her. She escapes imprisonment, but the veil is pulled off her eyes about the Guild afterwards, leading to her frustration. She leaves the guild, as much as a person can just leave a guild. (Rumour is, she poisons the Guildmaster, sets HQ on fire, and high-tails it out of town.)

Her roads converge on Baldur's Gate, where she leads a solitary existence as a free agent, picking up jobs for crime gangs and down-on-their-luck citizens alike. Ea won't discriminate for coin, a girl's gotta eat - but she does have a pretty stubborn (and reckless) tendency to rob the rich and give to the poor, especially in the big city. She will never take a job from a noble or a wealthy merchant if she can't blatantly extort the hell out of them, or scout their homes to return and rob them in the middle of the night. She will take a job from regular folk, often times for free.

Until she gets scooped up by a Nautiloid and implanted with a squirmy little tadpole, that is.

Personality.

Chaotic neutral. Though it would be easy to assume she's in it for herself, Ea's understanding of laws and rules is more in the lines of 'if it doesn't actually help people, fuck that shit'. Criminal background. She can find a way into the underbelly of any city, has a knack for sniffing out secrets, and is fluent in thieves' cant and infernal. Not that infernal makes her a criminal, just - you know.

Intelligent, but reckless. Also, her rizz is in the negative even if you think she's cute. Mid wisdom because she's impulsive enough to have a low survival instinct, but has expertise in insight so she can read people like an open book. (For real, wait until she gets reliable talent - then hate her.)

Sarcasm as a self-defense mechanism. This is pretty self-explanatory. She'll flirt or be dry, depending on what the situation calls for, but if she's being sarcastic it's safe to assume those are her walls going up.

Visual. Tall and slender (5'9" if you measure to the tip of her horns). A tiefling, she is lavender-so-light-it-looks-pink hued, with matching hair. Her eyes have a black sclera, violet iris with a bright green edge (thanks Larian). She has a tail, which by dint of being a rogue, I choose to believe is as dexterous as Ea is - so she can use it to wrap around things, though usually it ends up coiled around her own leg or waist if she's stealthing.

Fashion. Rogues wear black, thanks. All clothes must have secret pockets and non-secret pockets for daggers.

Visual. Tieflings are generally a rare race, and Ea is stranger even. Standing at 5'9'' tall, she's the antithesis of a rogue: she stands out like a motherfucker. Big pointy horns, lavender hair and violet eyes, which she tries to hide under a cloak as often as possible. Lithe and athletic, and extremely dexterous.

Fashion. Rogues wear black, thanks. All clothes must have secret pockets and non-secret pockets for daggers.

Demeanor. Sarcasm as a self-defense mechanism, and a tragic backstory isn't all there is to Ea. She has a very solid moral code (chaotic neutral, hello), and hates to see injustice. She can be reckless, and though she hates to admit that she can be vulnerable, she likes actually having friends with which to be vulnerable. Also, aside from being literally horny (and tail-y), she enjoys sex under the assumption that nobody wants strings attached to her, and that suits her fine.

first impressions

about

Ea Lowkey was raised in an empoverished mining town, by two wonderful men. Her father worked in the mine, and in the mine he'd come to lose his life. Her dad was a bard for hire in the local taverns, making as much as needed to make do for the month. Disaster struck early in life, and despite her more than happy childhood, Ea loses her fathers when she is no older than six.

First, she becomes an urchin, running from gang to gang, until the guildmaster of the Blackbirds takes her in under his (ha) wing. With him, under his orders, Ea steals and spies, she passes information, she gathers it, she blackmails and bribes and does whatever is asked of her. For years, she is reassured by the Guildmaster that she is one of the greats, until a mission goes awry and she is dropped like a hot potato.

She spends some time locked up in the cells of a temple to a trickster god, until a cleric with ideas of what the doctrine should be about, sets her free. When Ea makes her way back to the guild, she grows steadily unhappy and frustrated with the injustice and corruption that festers within it. (Totally unrelated, the guildmaster dies poisoned and the guild is disbanded, but who can say what brought that on.)

Second, Ea becomes a rumour. A free rogue agent now, she makes coin by taking the jobs she likes, and stealing from the wealthy to give back to the poor. She knows it's unsustainable, which is why at the back of her head is the idea that some day, she'll eat the rich (not literally) and bring capitalism down - what's capitalism ever done for the downtrodden anyway?

She does occasionally meet with the cleric that freed her in a dingy tavern here and there, to catch up and share a drink - and that is how she ends up as hired muscle (or is that dexterity?) on a rescue mission to find some kidnapped nobles.

The long and short of it is: joined by a dwarven druid and a dragonborn monk, the four trod around the island nation until the find the victims unconscious, being used as sacrifices for a ritual to summon Tiamat. Together, they wreck havoc on the cultists' plans, and save some lives, change some lives, and in ways that are not necessary to retell, start a rebellion that ends with the abolishment of the island's monarchy. Tiamat's Misfortune (TM) is born.
